Galileos: The Father of Modern Dentistry

Last week we talked about some of the new ways our office is incorporating new technology to our practice. On Monday, Dr. Trujillo and one of his assistants, Hannah, had the opportunity to learn a new type of Cone Beam: The Galileos by Serona. This top of the line machine is only one of a few in the Valley, so it was a real treat to get to try it out. We even got to take a scan on a patient that day to plan comprehensive implant placement which would not be possible without such advanced scanning.

Having access to the Galileos will make even the most difficult cases much easier. Up until now, X-rays have been two dimensional images of a three dimensional environment which can sometimes lead to unexpected setbacks. With the new 3D Cone Beam, we can eliminate any guessing by having exact knowledge right before our eyes without having to physically look in the patient’s mouth. In the past, many patients were denied the opportunity to have implants because of the lack of good quality bone, or its relation to opposing teeth. With the advancement of these scans, we can view the mouth in a completely new way and literally see what the implants would look like before even placing them in the mouth. Being able to accurately study, plan, and place implants with the Galileos will give more people the opportunity to enjoy dental implants and use them as an alternative to bridges or dentures (or no teeth at all!)
